The Early Years

Bolton Wanderers Football Club is one of the oldest and most well-known clubs in England. It was founded in 1888 by Bolton Wanderers and 11 other founding members.

The club's first match was against Blackburn Rovers on 13th September 1888. Bolton Wanderers won the match 4-1. The club's early years were spent playing in the Lancashire League. They joined the Football League in 1892, and they have been a member of the league ever since.
